My Favorite 7 Best Photo Editing Apps to use to Market Your Salon, Spa or Barber Shop:
These are my favorite Best Photo Editing Apps that will help you make great pictures and video posts for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and almost every platform as well as your own website. Now, more than ever, if you don’t show off your work online and if you don’t let people be introduced to you via the internet, you are all but invisible to new customers. Pictures and videos of you and your clients in the spa or salon, behind the scenes videos and a few personal shots thrown in there, will help you reach and entice more customers.
Your social media posts and your website are what keeps you, as a brand, top of mind in your existing customer’s minds. And your social shares, website and social media profiles are what your customers share with their friends to recommend you and convince their other friends to try your services. So, make your visual statements count and I hope that my favorite apps can help you do that.
AVIARY – My first go-to App is called Aviary for IOS and Android. You can do great photo editing with this app. Aviary has easy buttons on the bottom of your screen which includes 20 tools and over 1500 effects, filters, text and, my favorite: the blur tool. Before I post them to Instagram, or anywhere, I will size my pictures, then I’ll use the Blur tool button. You can blur out crepey skin lines or blemishes then tap the “adjust tool” to warm up or brighten pictures to enhance skin tones.
More Aviary – Use the “sharpness tool” to make pictures pop and to feel more 3D. Aviary has great text fonts, draw pens with tons of tip sizes and colors as well as stickers, boarders and more. Go to Aviary.com where you can also use their online version which you can use to edit photos via your PC or laptop!
InShot – Video is very important for social media, including Instagram. My favorite video editing app is InShot. InShot helps you make the best videos quickly. Use existing short videos or pictures and you’ll be able to format those in many ways with great stickers and text fonts that can appear and disappear throughout your videos. Use stock music or music from your smartphone’s library. There’s even a fade out feature.Once you have your video the way you like it, it takes about a minute to process and you’ll have to view a commercial popup which is a great price to pay for a good video app.
Add Watermark – I recommend that every picture of yours should have a text that states your Instagram name on it, such as @mafiahairdresser if you are posting that picture on Instagram. Or, if you’re posting on Facebook, stamp the photo with your website URL with an app like Aviary. It’s even better if you brand your photos with your logo, if you have a brand logo. You can brand pictures with an Android App called Add Watermark and many Apple users use an App Called water mark Pro.
If you are in the salon industry, I’ll assume that you are on Instagram and that you have some sort of art direction to your Instagram page. That means, if you’re a conservative type of salon, and your clientele mostly makes a zillion dollars a year, and they all live in pastel houses and your salon colors are pastel, then your Instagrams should look consistent to what your customer likes and what you are: Use Pastels! I suggest using filters and photo editing apps to help you do this.
AfterLight is great for giving your pictures an old timey or romantic tone to your pictures.
If you use the same filters consistently, you could achieve continuity or art direction in your photos which makes you stand out from the crowd. There are 74 Filters and Light Leaks and Textures as well as 128 Frames in AfterLight.
Snapseed – Snapseed is a classy photo re-toucher if you have an Instagram account and you want to show off how beautiful your hair colors, cuts and clients are. It does have a great blur effect. I love the tilt shift filter. Snapseed is not about the filters but the laser targeting pinpoint touching-up is awesome. Snapseed interface is more detailed than Aviary’s but it’s a very good photo editing app.
Photo Editor Collage Maker Pro – I’ll also recommend Photo Editor Collage Maker Pro from Lyrebird Studio, for Android and IOS. This app has some great collage templates, and not just your average ones. What I really like about this app is the Mirror effect templates that are also not-so-average. If you like the mirror effects that stylists and colorist seem to favor on Instagram (because your customers may not want you to show their faces) then this app will help you add some pizazz to, what I think, is sort of a tired effect. (Maybe if you promised to touch up your customer’s face up with Aviary, they’d let you post pictures with their faces in them? Just a thought…☺)
Photo Editor Collage Maker Pro has shapes for memes and filters to do black and whites. Their stickers mimic Snapchat. Their frames are not stupid. The blur picture-in-picture has a few options and you will have background colors to choose from so you can use your salon colors. Think: Art Direction!
Boomerang – The last app I’ll mention is Boomerang from Instagram. If you don’t know Boomerang, that’s that app that does that makes pics that go “back and forth,” Gif-style. Boomerangs on Instagram can grab attention, so use this app and watch how other salons, hairdresser and barbers are using it; and then be inspired to make your own Boomerangs on Instagram.
