Facebook rolls out Facebook Video Chat

Before I tell you about Facebook Video Chat I want to ask you: have you ever wondered why Facebook separated Facebook Messenger, Facebook Ads, and Facebook Pages from its regular app so there are four apps? Well, it’s because Facebook, with all of its features such as Facebook LIVE, Marketplace and it’s now dense Timeline, couldn’t possibly be a big enough app to handle Business Pages, Ads Managers as well as Facebook Messenger. It had to make them 4 separate platforms or it would be too slow and you wouldn’t stay on as long. The longer you stay on Facebook or Facebook Apps, the more money Facebook can make; but more on that subject later.

If you are in the beauty business, you know that Facebook is still one of the most important Social Media Platforms to you. Through your Facebook Pages you can do inexpensive and effective Ad that can reach your target market. If you keep your Facebook Page followers engaged with daily and weekly information that they want to see, you’ll also continue to grow your clientele and your business.


Now Facebook Messenger has introduced Facebook Video Chat.  You can Video chat/call with a few people and Facebook says you can even Video Chat with up to 50 people.  The people on the group video chat will see the one dominating the talking on the screen. What does this mean for you, the beauty industry professional, who use Facebook Pages to keep your business growing? Well, not much, unless you have your customers Following you as an actual Facebook friend on your Personal Facebook Profile. You will need WiFI to use this feature or pay for data and you may suffer a week signal that can bounce you off the chat.

This new Facebook Video Chat feature, now on IOS and soon, on Android, could be a great way to host a teaching event such as how to use a new product in your salon or a blow dry tip. But, again, this would only be a tool to use if you use your personal Facebook Profile to engage your customers which, in my opinion, is not the best marketing choice; but I wanted to inform you of this new feature.

Part of the reason that Facebook Messenger has added the Video Chat Feature is to add some Snapchat and Instagram Story magic into its platform. I think Facebook is trying to entice Snapchatters and Instagramers to use the Facebook Video Chat on Facebook Messenger, don’t you? Facebook loyalists will certainly use Video Chat to keep in touch with some selected friends and family. But Facebook messenger might be too nerdy for a younger generation using Snapchat. But I just told you how you might use it because a big portion of our clients do use Facebook and some of you use your personal timeline to engage your customers.

The best Feature that Facebook Messenger has rolled out with Faceboook Video Chat that really sparks my interest is the the 3-D Filters that were added to enhance your chat/video experience. I think everyone is going to like these filters and I will tell you how you can use them to help you grow your business with Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and even email in my next blog.
